A Preacher’s Misconception
Topic: Understanding sin
Sub-Topic: Presumptuous sin
This post will be a continuation of the post from Wednesday, July 20. I wanted to do two parts for two reasons, I felt the first one was already long enough and I wanted to wrap up the lessons about sin this week. If you would like then please follow along, I will be going back over Wednesday’s scripture but with an even further meaning. If you do not have a bible then I suggest you follow along with me. Remember this is the last post for sin, next week will be on something else. This interpretation of scripture will be from the King James Version (KJV) Without further ado lets take a look at the scripture from Wednesday.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
On Wednesday we learned about willful sins and having a prayer life. Today from this version of the scripture we are going to go further deep into this scripture according to the KJV. Tonight we will be talking about presumptuous sins. I know you must be wondering what is a presumptuous sin…..
The presumptuous sin-A sin that is caused by foolishly assuming that God’s favor will override disobedience to His word.
Adam and Eve presumed that if they ate of the forbidden fruit that they wouldn’t surely die. But when they sinned against God, they were driven from the garden and began to die. They died spiritually when their sin separated them from God and would die physically in time to come.
Now that we have a definition lets take a look at an example of this. An example of a presumptuous sin would be assuming that God will understand and look over your sin. Now a lot of people think it’s fine to live any kind of way that they want to but what they do not realize is that this is a presumptuous sin. Thinking that your sin is alright for whatever reason. If you commit a sin and think its fine and end up staying in that sin then you are wrong. Our wisdom says to learn from mistakes and to seek God to help me us well as other people. Now it is funny how someone’s sin is automatically okay but for another Christian then it is not. You cannot assume that for some special reason that you will be saved from god’s judgment and his wrath. Don’t you know that God does not permit anyone to sin and get away with it no matter who you are? God’s word is his word its either you abide by it or you don’t. Don’t you also know that your sin will find you out? You cannot expect God to be in something where the devil is. You cannot place God in a situation where the devil is. In other words, if you live with someone and not married, which is fornication then understand that this isn’t right, do not assume that God is blessing you in this situation because you have already placed yourself in a place where the devil is. Understand
Galatians 6:7 “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows”. God can only bless you when you are serving him not the devil. I hope you know that the devil is also a father and has many kids but you have to know if you are one of the devil’s kids or not and if your not then are to follow God’s word. If you curse or go out clubbing then get help to stop because then you are placing yourself in the devil’s hands as one of his kids. I hope you are aware that the devil can bless you too and you don’t even realize it and because you get blessed by the devil then that is why you stay in your mess like you do no matter what someone else says because you think your getting blessed by God and if your getting blessed by God then your doing the right thing. I do want to elaborate on this but maybe another time. Just Remember this.
The presumption is the devil’s counterfeit of Faith. Faith is standing on God’s promises whereas Presumption is purposely venturing outside the will of God. Faith is accompanied by obedience and draws one closer to God, whereas presumption is accompanied by disobedience and leads a person away from God.
