A Preacher’s Misconception
Topic: Living to please God
Last week we learned that as Christians we can be angry. It is not a sin to be angry, so tonight we will be learning about the new man when it comes to anger. Now that we are into a mindset of Christ then what would be the next step as a Christian to help move on from anger. Remember anger is a terrible thing but Christ is awesome enough to allow us the authority to control our emotions. Our responses to situations and problems are a result of the lack of not being a spiritual mindset and not spending time with God. Tonight will be a good lesson, stay tuned 🙂
Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen. Let us take a look at two scriptures for tonight.
For the first scripture tonight we will be learning from the book of Colossians. If would like to follow along with me then please do and so without further ado, let us get into the first scripture for the night.
Colossians 3:7-9-You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
Part one of Colossians 3:7-9 says you used to walk in these ways, past tense “used to”, so what is the scripture saying? The scripture is simply saying that we all had a past in the ways we used to think and or respond to situations. Now that you are saved things have become different in a way that the Bible says to no commands us to get rid of all things of our past nature such as anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. You cannot be saved without allowing God to remove the corrupt parts of your flesh. In order to please God then we have to get rid of these things. When Jesus walked on this earth he did not nor did he allow himself to get caught up in the mindset of retaliating against anyone who has prosecuted him but he stood there in the midst of it all and endured it, why? Because of love. Violence and hatred do not show evidence of love but of the works of the devil.
For tonight’s last scripture we will be going into the book of Ephesians.
Ephesians 4:31-32-Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
Furthermore to confirm the last passage we have again a command to let go of all anger and clamor and slander. We are to put away such things because it is not associated with a child of God. It’s funny how someone will immediately so they are saved but will not allow the holy spirit to work in them. The reason is that they are not a child of God. Another child of God can spot another. There are times where I have not been doing what I was supposed to do to represent the kingdom of God. The world is quick to criticize the people in the church with the things with they do thinking that that’s who Christ is. We as children of God are representations of Christ and sometimes will fall short but you have to realize that falling short is not who God is. God is PERFECT. Absolutely perfect and he wants us to be that way and that is why our aim is always to hit that mark. Just because we will not ever hit that mark does not mean that we should not strive for it. If you are not saved then get to know God for yourself and for how others act and for the people who are saved then remember we represent Christ so always be careful what you say, what you do, and how you react especially when it comes to anger.
Question for the week: Question: Can you still be saved but still have the works of the devil? Comment below
