A Preacher’s Misconception
Part 35
Topic: Living to please God

Sub-Topic: Holidays(Halloween)

Tonight, we will be starting a new sub-topic. For the next couple of weeks, we will be learning about holidays. I know it seems like there is nothing wrong with celebrating holidays, but lets confirm these with scripture to see if we should be taking part in such traditions. Tonight will be a lesson on the holiday “Halloween”.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespasses against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, for ever and ever, Amen.

Before we get into scripture, lets lay down some history about Halloween. Here are some facts regarding the origin of this holiday.

• Has Pagan Roots
• Halloween started October 31, Due to the belief of the spiritual realm being closer to the natural realm. Demons, witches, and evil spirits are said to be more widespread in the world on this day.
• Halloween is held before Jewish holy days.
• By 43 A.D. the roman empire, over the course of 400 years created two festivals of roman origin that was combined with the traditional Celtic celebration of Samhain. The first was Feralia, in late October when the romans traditionally commemorated the passing of the dead.
• The second was to honor Pomona, the roman goddess of fruit and tress.

Halloween is a holiday that is based off of evil. Why would a child of god celebrate the devil? This holiday glorifies the devil. We are to stay away from the devil. If you think it’s still okay for a Christian and a Christian family to continue to celebrate “Halloween” then lets see what the bible has to say about the holiday “Halloween”

Romans 13:12
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

As we all should know, the holiday Halloween is about Ghosts, Demons, Witches, Witch craft, black magic and etc. The first scripture for the night has to deal with as Christians we are to shun evil and put on the armour of light. When you go out to trick or treat with your children then you are worshiping the devil. Halloween is also a holiday for “free candy”. Sounds good right, but what about the costumes or decorations. Every year thousands of houses are being lite up in Halloween decorations, to celebrate the holiday. Even though since the 19th century the scary ideals about Halloween have changed and now is more of a secular holiday, meant for kids and parties and candy and in general bringing the communities together. Regardless of this effort to change this into more of a secular holiday it still has it’s roots into the spiritual realm. This realm is not of light but of darkness. Why do you think every year kids are dressing up in costumes and most as ghosts witches, demons, and anything evil related. Furthermore there even reports every year of candy being tampered with to bring harm to children. Another thing is people throwing eggs in other peoples homes and toilet paper on the property of others.

I will end tonight’s post on this scripture.

Deuteronomy 18:10-14
There shall NOT be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium. Or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable things the Lord your god will drive them out before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God. For those nations, witch craft practice witch craft and to diviners, but as for you, the Lord your god has not allowed you to do so.

I know this has been a long post but its better to learn than to be ignorant. I used to celebrate Halloween and have been condoning it the past even though I knew it was wrong, but since I have been learning more of why its wrong then I feel better and know to never to do that again. I am improving myself one teaching at a time. If this was a good message then hit the like button. Until next time Be safe and Be Blessed, everyone.
