A Preacher’s Misconception
Topic: Living to please God,
Good or Bad 4
Tonight, we will be continuing on the sub-topic of “Good or Bad”. At the end of last weeks post I mentioned that we will be going over an even further depth of each fruit. Tonight will be on “Love”. Love is just not a feeling. When we think of love then we think very little of it. We often times pick and choose who we show love to. To be honest I don’t believe that we do know what love really is. I never knew what love really is until this study. Love has so many components.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespasses against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, for ever and ever, Amen.
Alright, lets quickly get into scripture for tonight. We will begin by diving in a bit further into “Love” and what love really is.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts. Always hopes, always preserves.”
Love goes further than what we think. When the world think of love, they think of sexual desires, and etc., but love is so much more than that. Love is showing patients. Are you patient or are you easily tempered? If we think of love on a small scale then we honestly do not know what love really is. Love is way beyond our comprehension.
Being envy of others is not showing love. Be happy for people when you see them succeed in life. Love is not also proud. I have seen many people be this way, including myself. Being proud is not showing an act of love towards anyone. Love does not dishonor others. To dishonor others is to bring shame to them. If you are a parent or for those who are not, like myself, imagine raising a child and when your child gets older they do the total opposite of what you said not to do. How much love would you feel then? Dishonoring others and especially god is not an act of love.
When it comes to love not being self-seeking then realize that you cannot show love to someone when everything is about you. Even when you think you have done a good deed for the day it does not stop at that point. Life is not about you but it is about god and when we put God first then we will learn that life is more important when it comes to helping others than to help yourself.
Love also cannot be easily angered. How can you show love to everyone and when you want to take someone else head off. Love do not discriminate when it comes to who we show love to. Let your heart not be angered and once you do this then you can begin to love others no matter what they do to you. Love keeps no records of wrongs. You may want to fight someone but by you wanting to do this then you are keeping records of wrong. Forgiving someone is hard but we can do it. You cannot show love when you are in and condone evil. Love rejoices in truth. Love is telling your brother or sister that what they are in or doing is wrong in the eyesight of God. No matter how they look at you. I know that I have been looked at funny but I have came to realize that its okay. Just know that you have done what is right in the eyesight of God and that person by showing love.
Love does not mean to allow or condone anyone’s sinful actions. To love someone is to save them from committing mistakes in life especially when it comes to our salvation. What kind of love would it be to allow someone to get hit by a car when you know a car is coming? It makes sense to tell that person so they can be safe, right? Love is a lot deeper than what we could ever imagine it to be. I hope to have helped everyone tonight. You can read an extended explanation on “Love” on my website. Be on the look out for my website and an expanded lesson on “Love” in the future. Until next time be safe and be blessed, everyone.
