“A Preacher’s Misconception”
Part 6

Topic: Separating from the world
Sub-Topic: Becoming a new person

I pray that God is working in your lives right now, I also pray that you allow God to work in your life. Jesus, please lead them to the knowledge of the truth. Please help them to understand whatever situation that they are in that you are the only one who can bring them out Lord Jesus, surround them with your presence and your love. Help them to renew their minds and to stay on the path of righteousness in the name of Jesus we pray Amen.

For the last couple of weeks, we learned about separating from the world. Now that we have an idea of what the world is we now are going to continue to dig deeper into this topic. Tonight’s scripture will be coming from Colossians 2: 20-23 and it says this 20. Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

This scripture is very good it is saying that since we all know that once we accept Christ into our lives as our Lord and Saviour we are changed and the former way of thinking has passed away and our sins in the past have been forgiven. Many people often times like to bring up what you did in the past to justify their point to keep sinning because we are not perfect. If you have someone who likes to bring up old things before God saved you then tell them you are now a new creature and a changing person for Christ and not for the world and since this is the case we can continue with the scripture.

As time keeps changing and new trends or traditions are started, the Bible says to not follow them. Here is an example, if a new pair of shoes comes out and you see a lot of people with them don’t think that you have to have them just because they have them. Do not try to fit in with whatever someone is doing whether it’s going to the clubs or cursing or smoking or drinking alcohol. Stop trying to fit in with the changing times around you. Time will keep moving something new every day is coming out as a new trend and it’s hard to keep up. But regardless you shouldn’t try to keep up with it because then you are chasing the world. I want to say this focus on things that are above not on the earthly things for verse 22 says all things are destined to perish even this mortal body that you are trying to please by sleeping with married men or sleeping with someone who you are not married too.

Let’s take a look at another scripture Colossians 3:1-4 says, Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. As I said before to not follow the things of this world. This scripture is pretty much self-explanatory.

Continuing on this let’s look at one more scripture for tonight. Colossians 3:5-10. 5. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

This scripture ties into what I was speaking about last week about no one being perfect. It simply means that now that you are saved you are to take off the old you and renew your mind to the new way and that is the way of the Lord. God says to put off the things that belong to yourself which is your earthly nature because if you don’t then destruction is coming to you which means that you will endure the wrath of God if you don’t know about god’s wrath then pay attention later as I discuss this as to what the wrath of God is but I tell you if you think it’s hell down here on earth then you are highly mistaken just wait until god’s wrath comes. This concludes tonight’s message.
Tonight’s message was a continuation on separating from the world. Thank you, once again for taking the time out to read and to learn and to apply the word of God in your lives. Please continue to read and grow as I continue to grow in the Lord. Until next time for “A Preacher’s Misconception” Part 7. Be Safe and Be Blessed, everyone.
